About us

What is DevRG?

The Development Geographies Research Group (DevGRG) is a large and active research group at the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers). The DevGRG membership is largely made up of academics, postgraduates and practitioners interested in development geographies. Until 2019, we were the Developing Areas Research Group (DARG) but voted to change our name to better reflect the diverse, global scope of the research that defines and shapes development geography.

As a research group, we contribute to the RGS-IBG Annual Conference by holding roundtable events and sponsoring conference panels, we produce publications and resources, we hold a number of student events (for both UG and PGR students), we award a number of prizes (spanning school geographers to early career academics), we award an annual travel fund to contribute to PGR fieldwork costs, and we work to shape some of the wider politics involved in being a UK based academic (most recently working with GFGRG  to achieve better policies to support care in academy.
